Who can apply?

This offer is aimed at electrically heated flats. Final approval depends on both the property and the proposed heat pump installation.

  • Homeowners: enquire about a flat you own.
  • Landlords: enquire about an eligible privately rented flat.
  • Private tenants: contact us to discuss the offer; the property owner must authorise and participate in the application.
  • Existing heating: the flat must currently use electric heating.
  • Location: this offer covers the Midlands, North East and North West of England. Call with your postcode to check availability.
  • Suitability: the system and installation must meet current BUS requirements and pass a property survey

You do not need to receive benefits to qualify for BUS. This is a heating upgrade offer with its own property and installation checks. Contact us if you are unsure about your EPC or heating system.

Social housing and most new-build properties are excluded from BUS. Properties that have already received public funding for the same heat pump installation are also excluded. We check the applicable requirements before progressing your application.

Indoor heat pumps for electrically heated flats

An indoor air-to-water heat pump transfers heat from outside air into a water-based heating system, while the main heat pump unit is installed inside your home. It can be an option for flats where space for an outdoor unit is limited.

Suitable indoor systems use inlet and outlet ducts through the external wall rather than a separate outdoor heat pump unit. The survey checks airflow, duct routes, positioning and any permissions needed.

Designed for your space

Available space, access and the flat’s heating demand determine the appropriate unit and installation layout.

Efficient heating

A correctly designed heat pump can reduce the electricity needed for heating compared with direct electric resistance heaters. Actual savings depend on your home and tariff.

Hot water options

With a suitable cylinder, an air-to-water system can also supply domestic hot water. Your survey confirms the arrangements.

What the survey checks

The assessment considers heat loss, electrical supply, suitable radiators or other heat emitters, hot water storage, ventilation, noise and maintenance access. The proposed equipment and installation scope are explained before you proceed.

A property survey helps establish the right installation for your flat.

A system suited to your flat

Our assessment considers available space, noise, electrical supply, maintenance access and any permissions required. We explain the proposed design before you agree to proceed.

Heat pumps can use less electricity than direct electric resistance heating to deliver the same amount of heat. Actual running costs depend on the system, your tariff, the flat’s insulation and how you use the heating.

The £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme voucher

Eligible air-to-water heat pump installations, including qualifying indoor air-to-water systems, can receive a £7,500 BUS voucher. Under our fully funded offer, the voucher is applied towards the approved installation and you pay no contribution.

The £7,500 amount applies to eligible air-to-water systems. Other technologies have different grant amounts, so we confirm your proposed system and voucher eligibility during the survey.

The voucher is claimed by the installer and deducted from your quote. It is not a cash payment to you.

How to apply for your voucher and free installation

  1. Click Apply Now! Complete our website eligibility form with your contact details, address, ownership status and current electric heating information.
  2. Speak to our team. We check the initial details. Private tenants need their landlord’s involvement and permission.
  3. Arrange a property survey. The installer checks the heat demand, proposed equipment, hot water arrangements and installation requirements.
  4. Review your written quote. The quote shows the eligible £7,500 voucher discount, the approved installation scope and £0 customer contribution under this offer.
  5. The installer applies to Ofgem. An MCS-certified installer submits the BUS voucher application on the property owner’s behalf.
  6. The owner confirms consent. Respond to Ofgem’s request to confirm the application and complete any required identity checks.
  7. Installation and voucher redemption. Once approved, the installer completes and commissions the system within the voucher’s validity period, then submits the required evidence to claim the grant.
