What is internal wall insulation?

Internal wall insulation adds an insulating layer to the inside face of your home’s external walls. It helps slow heat loss through those walls and can improve comfort in solid wall homes.

A warmer living space

Reduce heat escaping through external walls and help rooms retain warmth.

Lower heating demand

Better insulation can reduce the energy needed to maintain a comfortable temperature. Savings depend on your home and heating use.

Improve energy efficiency

Insulating suitable solid walls can improve the performance of your home’s fabric

How internal wall insulation works

Insulation is fitted to the room-facing side of external walls, creating a barrier that slows heat transfer. Depending on the survey, the system may use insulation boards fixed to the wall or an insulated frame finished with plasterboard.

For homes with solid walls, there is no cavity to fill. Internal insulation can be an option where changing the outside appearance is unsuitable. Your survey determines the appropriate system and preparation.

Designed around your home

Existing wall condition, available space and moisture management all affect the design. Insulation should be planned alongside suitable ventilation and careful detailing around windows, doors and other junctions.

How to apply

  1. Contact our team. Call 0800 907 8209 with your postcode, property type, EPC rating, heating type and details of the benefits you receive.
  2. Check the criteria. We review your information and explain what evidence may be needed.
  3. Assess your property. A survey checks suitability, wall condition and the installation requirements.
  4. Confirm the next steps. If your application is approved and funding is available, the proposed work and arrangements are explained before installation.

Internal insulation can reduce room space and involve moving fittings and making good wall finishes. The survey should consider moisture, ventilation and any repairs needed. Ask what is included in the funded work before agreeing to proceed.
